Projects and Rants

I’m totally a blacksmith now.

My hubby and I did a class at Sherbrooke Village in Nova Scotia where we were given the opportunity to learn the art of smithing :3

We learned how to heat metal, hammer, stretch, hone a point, make a curve and make a twist. We started with a basic hook to learn the assorted skills, then were allowed to make whatever we wanted to attempt. I requested a cloak pin so I can use it for my Viking wolf. The instructor was not familiar with a cloak pin so I had to explain how it worked and figure out how to make one with his guidance as to the best way to go about making it. My hubby learned to tie a knot in metal which he made into a key-ring.

The hooks on the top are: Left - the instructor’s hook which he made and explained each step, Middle - mine I got a nice twist at the top but my hook is more of a V, Right - my husband’s who got a nice U shape, but only a really small twist.

The cloak pin on the bottom is all mine ^_^

It was SO interesting to learn and do, but boy it is hard on the arms. My forearm was tight for several days from all the hammering.

floofy-reshiram asked: Something else has been bothering me as well, I've found that the price of all the materials I would need to make a high-quality fursuit with three different fur colors, realistic ram horns, and a mouth piece I make myself only adds up to about $200. Why do fursuit makers charge ten times that amount?

fyeahfursuiting:

because they are trying to make a living.

If you divide the time they work hourly on actually putting the material together, it’s almost less than minimum wage.

Oh my! I’m selling my cock, bug and raptor :3 I need to make some space in my studio, so it’s time to say goodbye to some of my fursuits. But my loss is your gain! Check out the following auctions: Annie the Ant: http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1059853.html Old Lace the Raptor: http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1059849.html RJ Rooster: http://www.furbuy.com/auctions/1059852.html Starting price is super low, as at this time I do NOT have the time to do any modifications or alterations. All costumes are bought AS IS, but will include some material so you can do the modifications yourself, or hire someone who can. Good luck to everyone, happy bidding!

Orange is the new Black - Arkham
I needed a quick, easy to pack, comfortable to wear costume for SDCC.  I made an orange jumpsuit and ironed on some fabric transfers, added some silk leaves to an old cosplay wig and grabbed some old cosplay boots.
I’m really turning into a scavenger cosplayer… all my cosplays seem to have a lot of cast-off pieces from other cosplays.
